Moonshot AI Releases Kimi K2.7 Code Model: 30% Less Token Overthinking, 6x Speed Version Coming Monday

Moonshot AI officially released and open-sourced the Kimi K2.7 Code model today. According to the company, internal and external benchmarks show substantial improvements over K2.6: better instruction adherence in long-context programming, stronger performance on multi-step coding assignments, and a notable drop in overthinking tendencies, cutting average token usage by 30%.

On code-focused benchmarks, K2.7 Code delivers clear gains—Kimi Code Bench v2 up 21.8%, Program-Bench up 11%, and MLS Bench Lite up 31.5%. Agentic task benchmarks like Kimi Claw 24/7 Bench, MCP Atlas, and MCP Mark Verified see roughly 10% improvements.

Starting today, enterprises and developers can access the model via the Kimi API platform. Standard input and output pricing for 1 million tokens remains unchanged from K2.6 at 6.5 yuan and 27 yuan respectively; cached input price is adjusted to 1.3 yuan. The Kimi Code Plan has already defaulted to K2.7 Code, and users of Kimi membership plans (including the enterprise tier) can upgrade immediately.

Moonshot notes that for non-coding tasks, the more general K2.6 model is still recommended. K2.7 Code must have its thinking mode enabled to reach peak performance—the API will throw an error if it’s turned off, while the Kimi Code interface will fall back to K2.6.

The company also teased a high-speed version of K2.7 Code, which runs at 5–6x the normal output speed. In typical coding scenarios, output reaches about 180 tokens per second, and up to 260 tokens/s in short contexts. The faster variant will be available through the API on June 15 at only twice the regular price.
